A brief history of the company:

Uber technologies Incorporated is an American multinational company that provides online transport networking solutions world over. The company is incorporated in San Francisco in the rich state of California. The core area of work is development and operation of the mobile application called ‘Uber’ that allows the passengers to hire a cab ride from their smart phones about http://www.ridester.com/ .

The requirements for using the Uber app

The smart phone should have android running on it because the application is compatible only with android devices. The smart phone should also have a Wi Fi connection or mobile data n it in order to use the app because the app can only be used through the internet.

How the Uber app works:

The Uber cab drivers are only employed by the company in the capacity of call drivers. The car that is used by the drivers does not belong to the company. Infact, the cars belong to the driver who may have outright purchased the car for himself or may have leased the car or even purchased through a bank loan in which case the car will be a subject matter of the mortgage till the final EMI is paid by the person who has mortgaged the car.

The processing of the request:

When the consumer uses his smart phone to book a cab ride through the app, the Uber software program automatically receives the trip request and forwards it to the driver who is closest to the passenger at that point of time. Sometimes, there may be a cluster of drivers around the passenger who is requesting a ride. In such cases the software program will randomly choose the vehicle that is at the shortest distance from the waiting passenger.

When the software alerts the driver of an impending ride, the driver has the option to either confirm the ride to decline the ride. Mostly, the drivers accept the rides and this is also one of the reasons for the success of this model. However, in case the driver declines to accept the ride, the software chooses to alert the next closest vehicle to take the passenger’s request. The passenger also has the right to decline the acceptance of the driver but he will have to do so within the short span of five minutes from the acceptance of the driver. In case he takes longer to cancel his request, the app charges 20 percent of his ride value as compensation to the driver whose acceptance has been revoked.

How is the 20 percent determined?

When a taxi is booked through the app, the prospective passenger has to also enter in the desired destination at which he will want to be dropped. The Uber app then automatically calculates the fare that will be due from the passenger and helps get the transfer from the passenger’s Uber account to his account.

Uber’s spread:

In a short span of less than eight years, Uber has successfully entered most countries of the world and also been well received. Till date, Uber’s services are available in over 60 countries and 500 cities worldwide including the metros and the most developed cities of the world.

The process of Uberification:

Emboldened by the success story of Uber, local business houses have sprung up in most cities who also compete and complement with the services of Uber. The spawning of private taxi industry which are predominantly booked through their mobile apps is been scientifically termed as ‘Uberification’. The word ‘Uber’ is the slang for the word ‘Super’.

Founders of the revolutionary transport system:

The founders of Uber are Garrett camp and Travis Kalanick. The company was founded by seed funding process in the year 2009 and further seed funding in the year 2010.
